I found a challenge blog...

... today via a very friendly group of Stampin Up demonstrators that I have just joined.  The blog is called "Mojo Monday" and it offers a sketch every week for a card or scrapbook page, that you can upload if you want to share it.  Here is this week's sketch:

Now, I saw some really pretty cards like this one that I really love made from the sketch and that's where my thinking started: Sepia print of an old relative from the family photo album, a few bits of lace, some distressed and faded floral prints, lovely!  But while looking through some ancient family photos, I came across a very old and fuzzy photo of my Grandad when he was away in the war.  He looks so young; my Dad, their first baby, was only 1, and Grandad was away for five years with only a fortnight's home leave.  I suddenly felt very grateful to him and sorry that he had to go through all that fear and sadness.  I've only realised just now as I write this that what I have ended up making for him is a scrapbook "medal".   Hope you like it...

I turned the sketch to vertical in order to be able to have the framed oval photo.  I cut an oval frame from some gold card using the SU embossing folder and cut to photo to go inside it with the oval punch.  I used "chocolate chip" coloured touches - the ribbon, the branches, polka dot designer paper, to embellish it and inked all the paper edges to hold it together a bit. I used the letter text background paper as I liked the thought of him writing home, although I have never seen one of his letters from this period.  Sorry about the shadow in the bottom right, it's because I'm too impatient to wait for good light at the weekend!

  1. This is lovely! A very touching tribute. I love the text background paper.

  2. Glad you like it specially as I liked your card so much! Thank you for visiting and commenting. xx

  3. Love the card Tiara - and welcome to the challenges - I've just got hooked on them myself. Whose team have you joined? I'm a Pinky (Michelle Last). Welcome to the addictive world of SU and hope to meet you at Telford! xxx

  4. Hi Paula and thanks for commenting. I found the challenge through your card photo design that you put up on the pink ladies facebook group (I'm Helen Fullard White on facebook), I really liked it and thought the sketch was especially well designed, so thought I'd play along. Happy Stampin'!

  5. I absolutely love this Helen and was really moved by your post. I love the idea that scrapbooking connects us to the past as well as celebrating the present and your card has turned into a 'scrapard'! Vicky x

    1. Hi Vicky, nice of you to pop by! I think I love scrapbooking and journal making even more than cardmaking for that very reason.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. Please feel free to link to your own related projects, Helen x.
